Apple Store Coming to Sarasota 

The Apple Store is coming to Sarasota.  It was announced in the paper today, June 15, 2011, that there is going to be an expansion of the Southgate Mall in Sarasota.  Apple is one of the new prized stores that will be moving into the newly renovated and expended upscale mall.  The Westfield Southgate Mall  is located at the intersection of Bee Ridge Road and South Tamiami Trail ( route 41 ) near the north bridge for Siesta Key.  According to the Sarasota Herald Tribune article today, the expansion is to start taking place in early 2012.  The expansion of the mall could make this mall the premier mall in the Sarasota Area.  Along with the new Apple Store moving into the existing space in the mall, it is expected that there will be 30 new stores added.  The expansion of the mall is planned to be built on a parking lot nearest to where the Pottery Barn is now. 

The Apple Store is expected to be moved into the existing part of the mall this fall in advance of  the up and coming Christmas season.  There are currently 16 Apples stores in Florida with the closest one to Sarasota being at the Town Center in Brandon.  Having the newest Apple Store in Sarasota is a major plus for the Sarasota area.  Apple was recently named as the world’s top brand by a British research firm.

The Southgate mall is now home to other name brand retailers such as, Dillard’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy’s, Ann Taylor, Coach, Banana Republic, Williams Sonoma and over thirty other stores. 

UPDATE: At this time in April of 2012 the renovations that were reported by the paper in June of 2011 have not happened and the Southgate Mall will neither confirm nor deny that Apple will be locating a store at this mall.

However, since this was originally published, we now have an Authorized Apple Specialty Store,
Computer Advantage, located in north Sarasota on Route 41, North Tamiami Trail directly across from the Sarasota Airport. 

I was in this store myself this week and they are a full service authorized seller, repair and training center for all Apple Products.  They have all the Apple Computers on display and Apple Specialist there to answer all your questions. I was pleasantly surprised and happy to find them.
