Siesta Key Beach ranked Second in America by Dr. Beach

Another great reason why to live and work in Sarasota, Florida.  Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman aka “Dr. Beach” has just ranked the top 10 beaches in America and Siesta Key Beach has posted #2 just after Hanalei Bay in Kauai, Hawaii.  Dr. Beach called Siesta Key Beach, “Some of the finest, whitest sand in the world.  Siesta Beach has clean, warm waters that serve for ideal swimming.”

After having lived in Sarasota over the past 10 years and having formally lived in New England and growing up on the beaches of Martha’s Vineyard I couldn’t agree more with the good Doctor.  The beach sand consists of a white quartz powdery form that stays cool even on the hottest of days.  It is like walking on cool white sugar.  The beach itself is hundreds of yards wide and runs along the west side of Siesta Key giving us colorful sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico.

Not only is the sand white and fine and the waters blue and warm but the amenities thanks to the County of Sarasota and the people of Siesta Key, makes a trip to the beach an enjoyable experience.  Some of these amenities include, free parking, several areas of clean restrooms, full time lifeguards on duty, a free picnic area complete with picnic tables and charcoal grills for use along with pavilions that can be reserved for parties and gatherings.  Volleyball courts in the sand, a large beach pavilion that houses food concessions, beach shops, umbrella and lounge chair rentals, municipal lighted tennis courts, and security is always present for your safety.  Over the course of the entire year Siesta Key beach is host to parties and weddings, beach baptisms and Easter morning sunrise services hosted by several of our area churches.   A Sunday night drum line has become a favorite for locals and our guests and of course we have many charitable organizations that sponsor beach walks and runs.  Some of our local photographers can take your family portrait on the sand dunes of the beach later in the day as the sun sets giving them the right light for that special family remembrance.

Enjoy a day at the beach with your toes in the warm surf while you watch the power and sailboats in the Gulf of Mexico and yes if you dare, there is always the parasailing to do or it is just fun to watch.

Having a home here is to enjoy the beach for a sunset on any day of the week all year long.  My husband and I recently decided to take some romantic time for a trip to the beach.  Saturday night at 6pm we called into Carrabba’s which is located at the south bridge to the island of Siesta Key.  We pulled up into the take out spot at Carrabba’s to receive our order and then we headed over the bridge to the beach.  We grabbed our chairs and mini table and onto the beach we went to enjoy the sunset.  We set up our table and chairs, and enjoyed our calamari and bread with our favorite adult beverage poured discreetly into a pair of plastic cups and sat back to enjoy each others company as the sun set over the waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Sure glad we moved here to raise our family.  Come join us!
