Lego Man arrived on Siesta Key Beach on Tuesday.  Jeff Hindman was walking on Siesta Key Beach this past Tuesday at about 7am and came upon this giant brightly colored Lego Man.  lego_man_on_siesta_key_beach_400 As reported by our local news paper the Sarasota Herald Tribune, Lego Man is about 8 feet tall and weighs about 100 lbs. and made of fiberglass.  Lego Man has the words No Real Than You Are on his front shirt and “Ego Leonard” and the number 8 on the back of his shirt.  Ego Leonard is the reported name of an artist in the Netherlands.  An email was sent to the artist and the response was,
“I am glad I crossed over.  Nice weather here and friendly people.  I think I am gonna stay here for a while. A local sheriff escorted me to my new home.”

The Lego Man has for now been taken into custody by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s office.  If the owner does not claim him in 90 days then he will become the property of Mr. Hindman, the man who discovered Lego Man.

But who could blame Lego Man for coming to Siesta Key Beach, the #1 rated beach in America this past year by Dr. Beach, a.k.a. Dr. Stephen Leatherman.

Latest Breaking News Just Reported from the Sarasota Herald Tribune.

SARASOTA COUNTY - Sheriff Tom Knight confirmed Thursday morning that Lego-man could be freed soon from the shed where he has been kept for two days.

SARASOTA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE (COURTESY)

Knight reported to Sarasota County Commissioners at a morning meeting that he has been working with the head of the Sarasota Convention and Visitor's bureau on a plan. A priority is keeping Lego-man safe from thieves and vandals.

"We're hoping to maybe furlough him," Knight said. "It would be nice to get him out in the Siesta Key area, somewhere that he might not get lifted … I can't leave a deputy with him 24-7."

In the meantime, Knight assured commissioners that Lego man is being well kept. He's been cleaned up a little since he was first pulled ashore by a resident out walking on Siesta Key on Tuesday morning.

The commissioners had a laugh when one of them blurted out that Lego-man could be chained to the hulking Unconditional Surrender statue at Bayfront Park downtown."We've got to secure him somehow," Knight said. "That would be kind of cool."

I believe that Lego Man is looking for a Siesta Key Waterfront Condo.  Can you blame him?
