This area of over 10,000 acres was original purchased in 1910 by the late Bertha Honore Palmer, a wealthy socialite business woman from Chicago. Mrs. Palmer used the area for orange groves and cattle farming. Today only a few heads of cattle remain in some still left farming pastures. This farming area has now become what they call a master planned community of 18 different neighborhoods and communities. Styles of living vary in Palmer Ranch from condominium living, to family neighborhoods, to country club living and gated communities.
Palmer Ranch real estate includes two golf country clubs, the TPC Prestancia and the Stoneybrook Golf and Country Club. Both of these fine golf course communities are gated neighborhoods and have a variety of homes from large estate homes to maintenance free villas to condo living. All of the neighborhoods are gated communities in Palmer Ranch with the exception of Stonebridge and The Isles on Palmer Ranch.
Palmer Ranch is in the zip code of 34238 and is bordered by Clarke Road to the north, Honore Ave. on the east border, Central Sarasota Parkway runs along the south side, and Beneva Road and route 41 is on the west side. This area is very popular because of the closeness of shopping to the Westfield Sarasota Square Shopping Mall which has a 12 screen movie theatre along with a large selection of stores including Macy’s, J.C. Penny, American eagle, Jos A. Bank, and Hollister. There are several Publix grocery stores in the area, a variety of churches and easy access to schools and many different types of businesses and office buildings.
If recreation is an important part of your life Palmer Ranch is host to the Evalyn Sadlier Jones branch of the Sarasota YMCA , which is home to the Sarasota Sharks swimming team. The Legacy Bike Trail is a 12 mile section of old railroad track that has been taken up and paved to make a 12 foot wide bike path. This paved bike path runs from McIntosh Road through Palmer Ranch just west of the neighborhood of Turtle Rock and continues south into Venice, FL. Residents and visitors to Sarasota enjoy walking, rollerblading, and biking on this safe and easy to use bike trail. Along with being a great area with many amenities the Palmer Ranch neighborhoods are about a 15-20 minute drive to the world famous Siesta Key Beach.
