The Siesta Key Crystal Classic Competition first started in November of 2010 and has become one of the premier events of Sarasota and the Siesta Key Beach. Siesta Key Beach has been named the #1 beach in America by Dr. Stephen Leatherman. Siesta Key Beach sand is 99% pure quartz which gives it an extremely white sugary color that is soft to walk on and always cool even on the hottest of days. Because of this consistency it also makes it one of the best sands to use for building sand castles and sculpting designs. Sand Sculptors have said that Siesta Key sand makes their creations look as if they have been "Carved in Marble".
