Sarasota back in the National Spotlight

“U.S.  News and World Report” has just published a report “Where to Buy a Home for less than $800 a month” and Sarasota made the list at #2.  Here is an excerpt from the Article.

"#2. Sarasota, Fla.: Although exotic mortgage products and investor excitement sent home prices in Sarasota soaring during the housing boom, the subsequent crash hit the market as hard as anywhere in the state. Median home prices in the Sarasota area plummeted from $311,000 in 2007 to $185,000 in the second quarter of this year. But this steep drop only makes this sun-drenched community on Florida's west coast more attractive for home buyers, says Jack McCabe of McCabe Research & Consulting. McCabe says Sarasota's smaller size provides its

The Legacy Bike Trail, Sarasota, Florida

Why move to Sarasota?  Outdoor Amenities.

One of the many reasons that our family decided on Sarasota, Florida was the great outdoor lifestyle.  I remember before we moved in 1999, I spoke with a friend who had moved to Florida from New England a few years before we did. Andrea told me, “You will love living in Florida, there is always something to do outside during your time off from work.  Moving from the Boston area you really appreciate the year round sunshine and warm weather.”

Thanks to Sarasota County some of that “off from work” time can be spent biking, walking or rollerblading on       “The Legacy Bike Trail”.

As you can see from these pictures this is no ordinary beach sand.  Siesta Key Beach is consistently ranked among the best beaches in America year after year by Dr. Beach.  The sand on Siesta Key is 99% quartz which makes it very white – very smooth – very fine and very cool even on the hottest of summer days.  Because of the quartz make up of the sand it is very fine and stays together making it the optimum conditions for building any sort of sand design.

In a recent article written by Michael Pollick of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune dated March 30, 2010,   Michael wrote,

” Signs are pointing to the end of the era of 5 percent mortgages, one that already has lasted longer than most thought it would.  It is clear that the combination play used by the government and Federal Reserve to stimulate the residential real estate market in 2009 and 2010 -- artificially cheap mortgage rates coupled with lucrative federal tax credits and easily available Federal Housing Administration loans --…

Where I grew up in Wellesley, Massachusetts there was only one way to shop for real estate.  Usually which town you wanted to live in.  Up north towns had different flavors and price ranges.  There might be some differences between the east side of town and the west side but by and large that is how you decided where to buy.

What I quickly learned after moving to Sarasota is that you shop for real estate based on a neighborhood or area.  Different parts of the country have their own lingo but it really means the same thing.  Some would call it Neighborhoods others Communities and still others may refer to it as Subdivisions.  All and all it comes down to the same thing, where would you like to live?

Then the big question is:  How can I shop…
